History of Watches
A watch is a small timepiece typically worn either on the wrist or attached on a chain and carried in a pocket, but wristwatches are the most common type of watch used today.

They evolved in the 17th century from spring powered clocks which appeared in the 15th century. The first watches were strictly mechanical. As technology progressed, the mechanisms used to measure have, in some cases, been replaced by use of quartz vibrations or electromagnetic pulses and are called quartz movements. The first digital electronic watch was developed in 1970.

The wristwatch was invented by Patek Philippe, in 1868, but only as a “ladies bracelet watch”, intended as jewelry.  Wristwatches gained in popularity during World War I, when officers found them to be more convenient than pocket watches in battle.
The first digital mechanical pocket watches appeared in late 19th century. In the 1920s the first digital mechanical wristwatches appeared.

The first digital electronic watch, a Pulsar LED prototype in 1970, was developed jointly by Hamilton Watch Company and Electro-Data.  When Sir Edmund Hilary climbed Mt. Everest (the first human to conquer the mountain) in 1953 he wore Rolex Oyster.

The Oxford Dictionary stated that the word “Time” is the most often used noun in the English language.

SEIKO founded in 1881, has always been committed to the art and science of time.

The story of SEIKO began when Kintaro Hattori opened a clock repair store in central Tokyo at the age of 22. Just eleven years later, the company made its first clock and, in 1895, its first pocket watch. From then, a revolutionary watch and clockmaking enterprise was born.

SEIKO Solar is a quartz watch which takes its energy from light, and stores it in a self-recharging battery which never needs to be changed. SEIKO was an early pioneer in solar watch technology, with its first Solar watch being launched in 1977. Because it converts all types of light into energy, no battery replacement is ever required. With a twelve-month power reserve and three bar water resistance, SEIKO solar is as convenient for you as it is good for the planet.

“A powerhouse of technological innovation”

SEIKO Kinetic
Kinetic energy is the energy of motion. it uses the everyday motion of the wearer to operate the movement (or watch engine) it stores energy that is produced by simple everyday movements like shaking someones hand, turning the steering wheel when driving or swinging your arms. the energy is captured when the movements cause a weight to oscillate within the watch. this energy is then stored in a capacitor that discharges slowly over time. Kinetic watches are durable and low maintenance–an investment that will last a long time.

SEIKO Kinetic Perpetual combines the beauty of a classic mechanical perpetual calendar, correct until February 28, 2100, with the advantages of Kinetic- powered by the movement of your body–perpetual quartz accuracy, and up to 4 years autonomy when not worn. This caliber is a triumph of classical watchmaking and modern microelectronics–setting a new standard in Perpetual Calendar watches. It correctly displays date, day and months, including February of leap years. With Seiko’s unique Kinetic Auto-Relay technology, the watch will, when not worn, operated normally for 6 months on a full charge, after which it goes into “Sleep” mode for up for 4 years. The accuracy remains and the calendar continues to show the correct date, month and year, but the hands stop, conserving energy until the watch is put on again, the hands automatically reset to the the correct time. Wow, pretty awesome!
